CONCERT TITLE: A Palace in the Wild: Journeys in British Art Song
Edward Vogel, baritone
Jenny Parker, piano
The twentieth century saw distinct national styles emerge in western classical music. In Britain, this took the form of music inspired by gently rolling hills, impossibly green pastures, whitecaps crashing against chalky cliffs, and the distinctive harmonies of the island nations’ ancient folk music traditions. Exploring universal themes of love, loss, and life’s journey, and composed of pieces largely unknown in the United States, this program broadens the horizons of art song lovers, while introducing the genre in an approachable way to those new to it.
